Helping Hands
Design graduate David Hill has come up with an ingenious knitting aid for those with restricted mobility in their hands, particulary prevalent in arthritis sufferers. The Helping Hands was developed and tested with the help of occupational therapists, long term knitters and the Leeds based branch of the national charity Arthritis Care, for which David was short listed for its North England Arthritis Care Jubilee Award 2007. Needles slide through a large bead which acts as a ball joint and takes the weight of the knitting and the padded section supports the wrists so the user can concentrate fully on manoeuvring the yarn around the tips. The supporting base comes with five pairs of ‘beads’ to take needles size 3-8mm. For more information contact David on 07709 784542 or visit www.heartdesign.co.uk.
Correction: Helping Hands comes with four pairs of beads for sizes 3-6mm.
